Biography

Israeli-Belgian-American mezzo-soprano Mala Weissberg spent the spring and summer of 2025 as an Apprentice Artist with Opera Neo in San Diego, where she performed the role of Fernando in Vivaldi’s rarely performed opera Motezuma.

Mala is an award winner and semi-finalist of the Cesti Baroque Competition, and a recipient of an award from the Career Bridges Foundation. She is also a semi-finalist in the upcoming Concours International du Chant de Froville, taking place in September 2025.

Recent performance highlights include appearing as a guest soloist in Love, Beauty, and Death in Venice with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra in Toronto. Her favorite operatic roles in her repertoire include Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Miles (The Turn of the Screw), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Le Prince Charmant (Cendrillon), Ino (Semele), and Cendrillon (Cendrillon), among others.

In August 2025, Mala will appear as a guest artist at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, one of Europe’s leading early music festivals, where she will perform works by Gluck and Cavalli.

Looking ahead to 2026, she will make her debut at Oper Köln, singing the title role of Moritz in Max und Moritz by Gisle Kverndokk.
